Description
Description
The focus of one project is the characterization of mechanisms underlying the regulation of presynaptic plasticity under normal and pathological conditions. The other project studies the activity dependence of myelination and axonal outgrowth. This research is based on a wide array of methods including in vitro (primary cell culture) and animal model (knock-out, viral transgenic) approaches, cell biological, molecular, biochemical, histological as well as advanced imaging techniques (time-lapse live cell, two-photon tissue and in vivo, dSTORM super-resolution microscopy).
ab sofort
Two PhD Positions in the Dynamics of the Presynaptic Nano-Architecture as the basis of rapid information storage and behavior in neuronal circuits are available in the Team of Synaptic Neuroscience, University of Bonn Medical School, Germany.
The part-time (65%) PhD positions are within the frame of two joint DFG and iBehave funded research projects between the research group “Synaptic plasticity in health and disease” (Prof. Dr. S. Schoch) and the “Synaptic Neurobiology” research group (Prof. Dr. D. Dietrich).
The positions are limited due the project to three years.

The ideal candidate will be an ambitious, highly motivated, team-oriented graduate student with a strong interest in neurobiology. Prior research experience with animal experimentation, microscopy, or electrophysiology techniques is advantageous. Candidates should hold a Master’s degree or equivalent in Neuroscience, Biological Science, Chemistry or Pharmacy. Candidates should also demonstrate aptitude in written and spoken English.
Interested candidates should send curriculum vitae, letter of motivation indicating starting date, short description of past lab experience, copies of university degree(s) with academic records, contact information and at least two reference letters (or the referee’s contact info) as a single PDF file.
Salary will be according to the German salary scale TV-L E13 (65%). The University Bonn is a provider of equal opportunity in compliance with the German disability laws. Women and in particular individuals with disability are strongly encouraged to apply.
Questions concerning the projects can be addressed to Prof. Dr. S. Schoch (susanne.schoch at uni-bonn.de) or Prof. Dr. D. Dietrich (dirk.dietrich at uni-bonn.de). Applications by email until 05.09.2023 only can be sent to Susanne.schoch@uni-bonn.de.
